A very simple plan:
Note: I am not an economist or T.V. pundit, etc. This is my take in my own layman's terms of what the basic problem is and how history has shown how to fix it.
Somehow, through all the bloviating politicians, T.V. pundits, etc, we have forgotten who is really behind the "markets". It's us, the consumer. 2/3 of the American market is driven by consumer spending.
It's pretty simple psychology. I feel good, I buy stuff. I feel bad, I don't. As such, injecting 700 billion into the ether for liquidity, capital or any other academic term you want to use will not change anything. You might as well have gone to Vegas with it. (Although, with that much cash I think we could afford Monte Carlo.) You have to do something else. You have to make the general public at large feel like it's going to be ok. Bloviating about capital injection and other jargon isn't going to get people to go out and buy anything. More below...
I am just trying to reconcile as to why things happen in general. History continually repeats itself. People die needlessly; wars continue to rage for some stupid reason or another. It nearly feels like some sort of pre-programmed video game with the outcome being.... and that's where I get stuck. There is no outcome, really. It feels like an endless loop in the programming with no conclusion. Sure things are better for just about everyone compared with a hundred years ago I suppose, but is it really much different overall? Just when things get better, they get worse. Just when they get worse they get better and so on. They say change happens slowly. Ok yes some things, but the overall picture seems the same to me as it was thousands of years ago. Everyone is still fighting everyone else for resources. We are just a modern version of warring ancestors.
Ok, so how do we end the cycles and flow smoothly? How do we get the entire world to take some Prozac and be calm and happy? My solution goes back to my original attitude that Nike now uses to sell shoes. Just !@#$% do it. Hey you Saudi Arabia. Screw you. Were getting off oil in 5 years. Good luck selling the stuff. We are just going to !!@$$% do it. Maybe that can be some sort of campaign slogan or something :)
Anyway it's great that maybe the progressive democrats coming in can shake some things up, but overall it's not likely to change much unless something drastically changes or someone decides to really lead. It would almost take some sort of person like JFK/FDR/Clinton (without the issues of either) mixed with Gandhi, mixed with Ann Richards type of personality to lead. Basically someone who doesn't give a crap about anything except fixing the problem and getting folks to believe collectively that we need to move in said direction. Even this type of person would likely get bumped off because of all the moneyed interests. See Bullworth the movie, or the Palermo Connection or Mr. Smith goes to Washington, except at the end the guy doesn't feel guilty about lying.
And lastly at the end of it, personally I am tired. I am tired of fighting the good cause and everyone else heading to tailgate at the football game or fall asleep in their chair. If people don't vote in democrats this time around after everything that has happened I think I'll have to finally start that book I have thought about for some time. It's title is:
